He explained this was the town’s fifth Pirate Fest and its most successful. The festival has been held on and off since around 1994 when it was staged to coincide with the town’s Tall Ships Festival.

This year’s festival was made possible due to some funding from the Weymouth Business Improvement District (BID).

It is hoped the pirate celebration will be held again next year and that it will keep growing and growing.

“The biggest pirate festival in the country is in Brixham and our aim is to rival that one eventually,” Mr Vine said.
