Chanel hosted a replica show of their 2022-23 Cruise collection from Miami and there was no absence of celebrities in sight. Held on Miami Beach shores, it was a reimagining of the original show unveiled in May, in Monte Carlo, and curated by master creators: Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin. The former is the renowned film director of creations like Moulin Rouge and Elvis– which is predicted to be a 2023 Oscar nominated film; and the latter is his Oscar-winning (for The Great Gatsby) costume designer wife.
If you don’t look too closely, the shoreline of the show almost felt Monaco-like. And surely Gabrielle Chanel must have felt at home when she visited in 1931, with the familiarity of the French Riviera in one of America’s most southern cities.

The Maison brought the duo’s vision of two-tone striped parasols, red deckchairs that correspond with many of the looks, the world of Grand Prix-esque car racing as well as tennis, the Monegasque ballet, the famed Casino, and the Riviera itself.

Chanel is known for their replica shows, of re-showing Cruise collections in fascinating cities like Dubai. Miami is ideal because it centers around art and culture with events like Art Basel Miami that happens every December. Alan Faena knows this all too well, a reason why he chose to have the show at his hotel, the Faena Hotel.

Red is the color palette at the center of the collection. Fitted red tweed suits, black jumpsuits reminiscent of racing uniforms, black leather pants with a matching leather shirt, tweed summer dresses, and floral print dresses fill the collection.

Afterwards, in true Chanel style a party was had, but in a relaxed Miami way with bare feet in the sand. Guests watched performances by Nile Rodgers and Chic from two-tone striped sofas. The singers performed their songs Everybody Dance, I Want Your Love, and Le Freak and Good Times. Pharell then took to the stage and sang Get Lucky. And DJ Allie Teilz worked his magic by playing tunes.
But, the event didn’t stop there. Bruno Pavlovsky, President of CHANEL’s Fashion activities and President of CHANEL SAS hosted a masterclass at the Faena Forum where 190 students attended, along with Pharrell and Caroline de Maigret. The class and discussion was moderated by Tyler Brûlé, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Monocle magazine.
The collection is available in boutiques from today in the US, and worldwide on November 16th.
