Which Johnny Depp Character Are You, Based On Your Zodiac Sign?

Published

on

Following the trailer release of Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial, a movie adaption of the highly publicized defamation trial, fans of Johnny Depp who have yet to watch it become increasingly skeptical of the quality of the film. It’s understandable to worry, especially considering the high-profile films quick turnaround.

No matter how great a performance of the actor portraying Depp gives, it will be difficult to match Depp’s own world-class acting talent. As one of the most versatile and intense actors to ever grace Hollywood, the legend has accumulated an impressive array of characters. From Jack Sparrow to Edward Scissorhands, Depp’s characters are as distinct as they are memorable. Which one best matches your star sign?

Aries – Detective Tom Hanson (21 Jump Street)

Aries tend to impulsively follow their hearts, even if it means violating against rules, just like Tom Hanson in 21 Jump Street. The undercover cop often has good intentions in mind, but his poor timing and horrible luck make him seem inadequate at his job.

Regardless, detective Hanson gives it his all while out in the field. Though he begins quite motivated, he becomes wracked with guilt later, something Aries are highly susceptible to. The unfortunate murder of his girlfriend that happens right in front of him causes him to lose his sharpness due to trauma.

Taurus – Gilbert Grape (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?)

An underappreciated ’90s classic, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? is one of Johnny Depp’s best movies. Straying from his common character traits of the dark and unusual, Depp’s coming-of-age role as Gilbert Grape is as heartfelt as it is responsible, similar to those under the Taurus sign.

In the film, Gilbert must juggle mourning his dead father and caring for his shut-in mother and his handicapped younger brother. It is challenging for Gilbert to find balance between his familial obligations and his aspirations throughout the film, yet he stubbornly refuses to lose focus on what’s important.

Gemini – The Mad Hatter (Alice In Wonderland)

With a double-sided personality that is equal parts eccentric and empathetic, Depp’s depiction of the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland is as Gemini as it gets.

The Hatter’s charm is infectious, but he also has a darker side to him, something that is characteristic of the Gemini sign. This is clearly viewed in the movie when the genocide of his people at the hands of the Red Queen is reminisced about with sorrowful rage, the very event that sparked the anarchistic tendencies of the character.

Cancer – Edward Scissorhands (Edward Scissorhands)

Edward Scissorhands may be Johnny Depp’s most iconic character and his most impressive performance. Even though it was the first of Tim Burton and Depp’s legendary collaborations, it became an instant classic thanks to the film’s irrefutable uniqueness.

Edward’s timid and innocent nature is a common trait of Cancer folks. He may not be full of charisma, but the scissor-handed man’s soft-spoken attitude and ironic gentleness won the hearts of viewers effortlessly. However, like Cancers, Edward can become dangerous when backed into a corner or if a loved one is threatened.

Leo – Barnabas Collins (Dark Shadows)

Barnabus, the aristocratic vampire of the movie Dark Shadows, lived a lavash life before he and everyone he loved were cursed by a witch. After the deaths of his entire family and his true love, the lone bloodsucker had great difficulty coping with trauma, much like a Leo.

To prove that his parents were murdered, he becomes obsessed with dark magic, vengeful of the witch who walked free of the crime. He maintains his poised grace and intelligence, two common Leo traits, while he is in perpetual anguish as an undead creature.

Virgo – Sam (Benny & Joon)

It’s almost odd to see Johnny Depp in one of his most rom-com roles, aka Sam in Benny & Joon, but the eccentricity he consistently nails still shines through.

Sam has a charming quirkiness and loves with his whole heart, unconditionally, which is a staple of Virgos. His attention-grabbing nature is exactly what makes Joon, as well as the audience, fall for him. Sam’s illiteracy causes him to have a unique form of physical comedy and shows his dedication to family when he learns to write letters to his mother, similar to the Virgo sign.

Libra – Ichabod Crane (Sleepy Hollow)

The extremely logical Ichabod Crane is up there on the list of Johnny Depp’s most iconic characters, his stubborn and skeptical attitude perfectly embodying that of a Libra. Like many of his other roles, the character is dark and gloomy, but in a way that is entirely distinct.

His reluctance to admit that the case of Sleepy Hollow’s headless horseman is anything other than an elaborate sham of the supernatural and his thoroughness in proving so only further indicates his star sign placement, since Libra is quite literally the scales of justice. He sees every side of the story despite being misled by guilty figures around him.

Scorpio – Sweeney Todd (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street)

The dark horror musical movie adaptation of Steven Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd stars Johnny Depp as the titular “demon barber of Fleet Street,” and it takes the cake as one of Depp’s angriest roles. The character’s perfectly represented vengefulness stemming from devastating heartbreak fits right in with the Scorpio sign.

Depp teams up with Helena Bohnam-Carter to give viewers an experience like no other, with its musical elements aligning greatly with its dark story. Todd himself already looks dead, torturing himself mentally in a vicious cycle just waiting to erupt, which is characteristic of a Scorpio who has been wronged one too many times.

Sagittarius – J.M. Barrie (Finding Neverland)

J.M. Barrie is a true departure from the gloomy characters of Depp’s other films, highlighting the relationship of a playwright whose family influences him to write Peter Pan. His childlike imagination, genuinely, and creativity all categorize him as a Sagittarius.

Furthermore, the Barrie’s calm composure and elegance are not only what earned Depp an Academy Award nomination, but showcased the perfect realism he is capable of. These traits, accumulated alongside J.M.’s underlying sadness, solidify the validity of his star sign in Finding Neverland.

Capricorn – Willy Wonka (Charlie And The Chocolate Factory)

The peculiar Willy Wonka is so unlike Depp’s usual roles that he seems like an entirely different person, which is a huge compliment. His over-the-top workaholic life indicates that he is a Capricorn, who often submerge themselves in their ambitions to the point of fault.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory shows Depp as the chameleon he is when acting, yet still maintains the presence of the intrinsic sorrow his characters are known best for. The Capricorn inside Wonka keeps a white-knuckle grip on his inner child and treats his business like his own beating heart.

Aquarius – Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates Of The Caribbean)

It should come as no surprise that Depp’s most famed role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies has the makings of an Aquarius, specifically due to his unapologetically outlandish and adventurous nature.

The pirate’s personality seems to be completely fortified by his insane quirks and unique way of going about things, with more than enough heart to win over any audience. It is these unique traits that both keeps the wind in his sails and lands him ashore as an Aquarius.

Pisces – Victor Van Dort (Corpse Bride)

In Corpse Bride, the fifth collaboration between Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton, Depp takes on his first and only claymation role, bringing Victor Van Dort to life classically. The character’s strive for hope in a dull and gothic world, where he is arranged to marry a woman he barely knows, makes him one of Depp’s most unforgettable roles.

Victor does his best to keep those around him pleased, much like a Pisces, but his awkwardness and klutzy nature often put a damper on things. The sweet, timid young man slowly earns confidence as the movie progresses, thanks to the friendly undead. Victor’s love of art and music are defining Pisces traits, using them to gain the admiration of others.

This is what Chris Rock saw when Will Smith slapped him, according to AI

An artist has shared a series of AI images that have recreated Chris Rock’s point of view from the 2022 Oscars, where he was slapped by Will Smith.

During the 2022 ceremony, Oscars host Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head – a style she chose as a way of dealing with the alopecia she suffers from. Will Smith, who is married to Pinkett Smith, then walked on stage and slapped the comedian. He later shouted “keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”

The clip quickly went viral but an artist has now used the Artificial Intelligence-driven software Midjourney to create a series of images that show the altercation from Rock’s point of view.

“POV: You just talked smack about Will Smith’s wife at the Oscars (Big mistake),” wrote Barsee as he shared the first of four images.

The images have been shared across Twitter, with many users scared by the realism.

“I’m sorry but this AI thing is beginning to scare me,” wrote one user. “This makes me deeply uncomfortable,” added another while a third declared the “age of deep fakes is here!”

It comes days after an AI-generated image of Pope Francis apparently wearing a Balenciaga-inspired puffer jacket also went viral on Twitter.

Shortly afterwards, Midjourney temporarily disabled the platform’s free tier “due to a combination of extraordinary demand and trial abuse.”

Over the past year, Will Smith has reportedly “tried unsuccessfully” to make amends with Chris Rock.

In July last year, Smith posted an apology video to address his actions. “I’ve reached out to Chris [Rock] and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out,” he said.

During a Netflix stand-up show last month, Rock addressed the Oscars slap and said he “wasn’t a victim”.

“Everybody knows it happened,” Rock said. “I got smacked a year ago. I got smacked at the Oscars by this motherfucker. And people are like, ‘Did it hurt?’ It still hurts. I’ve got ‘Summertime’ ringing in my ear.”
